Berkshire Booked and Queer

BBQ – Berkshire Booked and Queer!

Berkshire Booked and Queer is a casual Berkshire County book club for queers, by queers. We read one book or poetry collection every other month, and meet on Zoom, in person, or both. Our book selection abides by the following criteria: The author of the book is either openly (or largely believed to be in historical authors’ cases) LGBT, or the book content is otherwise highly significant to the queer experience.

How does it work?

  • Give a quick introduction: your [preferred] name and pronouns, and one thing you’d like to share (your queer business? your day? your journey? have at it).
  • Participate to your enjoyment. Is that taking notes? Reading half the book? Marathoning the entire series and then graciously keeping spoilers to yourself? Do you just want to drop in at first and spectate people talking about a book? Be our guest.
  • Keep it an enjoyable environment for others, too. Come in with something to talk about, and make space for others to discuss, too. Engage with other peoples’ commentary.
  • Be mindful of what you share about Berkshire Booked and Queer happenings, and keep others’ attendance and conversations confidential unless explicitly permitted to share. This is an environment for both queer and questioning people, and different people are at different levels of public disclosure.

Schedule:

  • Sunday, February 20th at 7 pm: Emily Dickinson’s collection of poems, as many or as few as you’d like.
  • Sunday, April 23rd at 7 pm: On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous by Ocean Vuong
  • Sunday June 18th at 7 pm: Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tales, as many or as few as you’d like.
  • Sunday August 27th at 7 pm: The Passing Playbook by Isaac Fitzsimons
  • On hiatus for the rest of the year, to start up again in 2024. See you in the new year!
